Sveučilište u Zagrebu (UZ) i Universidad Nacional de Autónoma Meksiko (UNAM) su vodeće obrazovne i znanstvene institucije u Hrvatskoj i Meksiku.

With the support of the Unity through Knowledge Fund, we believe we can achieve this goal. The focus of our effort is the immediate engagement of the UZ group in the development innovative for new observable of the new state of matter at the energy frontier and also to increase group’s capability to participate in hardware upgrades of ALICE detector. Experience in working with GEM detectors is potential for strengthening of Croatian research capabilities. We believe that we can transfer some of UNAM group knowledge on a novel type of gas electron multiplication ( GEM) detectors originally developed at CERN to Croatia. The weakness of the UZ group has been the lack of hardware experience which is the strength of the UNAM group. The UZ and UNAM groups additionally share a common interest in contributing to detector upgrades. It is important to say that since almost 25 years the Croatian physicists have contributed in a notable way to this precise field in different experiments (Na35,NA44,RHIC). The program outlined in this document streamlines the involvement of UZ researchers and graduate students directly into flagship analyses of LHC data.

Their involvement in the LHC physics is a strategic imperative for Croatian and Mexican scientific development. The University of Zagreb(UZ) and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico(UNAM) are the premier educational and scientific institution in Croatia and Mexico. It is important to note that the analyses that will be undertaken under this project are absolutely unique and are the fruit of effort done prior to the the present proposal. It is expected that by applying this method more reliable information about the space time evolution of the dense Quantum chromodynamic system can be extracted. The present project will investigate innovative methods of analysis of two-particle momentum correlations at LHC energies using the ALICE detector applying transverse sphericity for the minimum bias proton proton collisions developed by one of the co-leaders of this project. This resulted in the observation of a new state of matter Quark-Gluon-Plasma(QGP). Such a critical period for the field of heavy ion collisions last took place 13 years ago with the start of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider(RHIC). Measurements performed at the LHC are shaping the future of the field. Operation of the Large Hadron Collider(LHC) is a critical time for High Energy Physics worldwide.
